滕建群認為，美國因為有這樣的顧慮，所以在南海老攪渾水，但現在又抓不住東西，本來抓到了菲律賓（當盟友），結果一仲裁完了以後把菲律賓賣了，誰還敢跟你跑，靠不住。

滕建群稱，此舉除了影響美國，像日、韓這些國家也得乖乖投降，畢竟在這個地區（南海）流動的是60%以上的世界貿易船隻。

滕建群在鳳凰衛視《周末龍門陣》中表示，美國現在有一種觀點，即如果大陸把南海卡住之後，美國的印度亞太政策戰略可能就攔腰截斷了；就是說美國現在把印度洋、太平洋作為美國整體的大戰略來管控，所以重返亞太包
